A break from the Series for…

Posted: May 31, 2011 in Personal

A medical update.  First shot today.  To be truthful, it did not hurt, but it did make me feel “oogy” and uncomfortable and odd…nothing freakin’ natural about that dang spinal epidural process, let me tell ya.  Still feel oogy and off from it.  In theory, in a few days my back should feel a bit better, and doc figures I will need one, maybe two more of these things…small price to pay for a fixed back though.  I go back to see him in about a month for an x-ray and perhaps round 2.

It’s good to remind us that you are a real person with problems that don’t come just from something with a political fix, not just a disembodied Voice setting items for academic disinterested debate.

Were I capable of the paradox of believing both in some Superpower and that I can control that same so it is not so ‘super’, I might pray for you. Since I believe any such ‘power’ is part of US that we don’t understand ‘scientifically’ yet, I pray to our ‘Collective subconscious’ where all deities are a lot more real and effective than anywhere else.

Well, I’m praying for you…the whole supernatural thing and all. You know where I’m coming from. Anyway…I am also REALLY happy that you’re getting treatment for that nasty back, and I hope (and, yes, pray)that this works.

  3. Xena says:

I don’t pray. I study and I trust the experts if they’re doing right by me. I argue with them if they’re not. If the experts who run my life are a bunch of weenies, I get rid of them and work with somebody else.

So take your doctor’s advice, do your homework if anything goes wrong, and talk to your doctor about it. It sounds like he’s doing right by you, but if he ever stops being good enough, just remember that the money you pay for your insurance makes you a powerful voice in a free market. You can tell any doctor to piss off and you can get a new one if something screws up.

But I’m sure you know that already 🙂

Epidurals are weird. Your spinal colunm is the ‘”air traffic control tower” where all of your movement happens. Even a little pinprick makes the whole system feel off. I had an epidural when I delivered my daughter, so I think I know what you mean by oogy. If that’s all you’re feeling, you’re doing okay. I actually had some pretty annoying back pain for a few months afterward. Like when you’re trying to lift something too heavy in an awkward position and you feel that burning pinch in your back. Except I wasn’t lifting anything. It was like that all the time. But it healed eventually.

It sounds like you’ll be ok. Take care of yourself.

Well, I don’t pray for a supernatural finger to come down out of the sky and touch your back and miraculously fix it…but I do pray for your doctors to have wisdom, experience and courage in dealing with it, and for you to have patience and sense while you endure the whole thing. I may be a Christian but I am not a snake handler!

I understand that, Rootie. I’m not dissing Xtians as a group. To each hir own, as long as hir own works for the good of humanity. I consider myself more of an agnostic than an atheist anyway. Nobody knows for sure. There are some questions pertaining to consciousness that we just can’t answer right now. Do trees feel pain when we cut them down? Could it be that the universe herself has some kind of unifying consciousness underlying the “accidental” processes of gravity, combustion, evolution, etc.? Could we all be tied together somehow, within that web of consciousness, as CL believes? While we’re still stuck within the limits of understanding how things work without knowing why they work, or whether or not there’s some kind of subjective experience driving the things we objectify, we won’t figure it out, either.

Any religious/metaphysical view/practice is as good as any other, as long as its practitioners aren’t willfully harming others for it, and as long as they’re willing to engage in enough self scrutiny to try to prevent as much accidental harm as possible. That’s the best any human being can do with the limited understanding we have, right?

My comment was just a comparison, no oughts implied.

I get defensive and grumpy when I think people are making fun of Christians, or implying that we’re somehow ignorant and all the same sort of uneducated hicks who have to believe because nothing else makes sense to our poor unenlightened minds. I actually*do* understand that people have as many variations of belief as there are people who believe (or don’t), and I hope it’s clear that I am neither a Westboro B.C. follower nor a B’Hai “believe what you want, it’s all good”…I know Christians who believe because they’re too dumb to understand anything else, and ones who believe because after massive amounts of education in science and philosophy, it’s what makes sense. So please forgive my touchiness in this. I’ve experienced prayer that works, in very tangible ways, consequently I use it regularly. Prayer is designed to bring the person’s will into alignment with the will of God, therefore wanting harm to come to someone, and praying for that, would be counterproductive. (and let’s not get into “then how come bad things happen to good people? What about War and Famine?” as that’s a whole ‘nother diatribe.) now i need another cup of coffee. Thank You God, for inventing coffee beans.

🙂 No harm done, I hope. I like Xtians like you and Hugo. There are a few nice ones here at at the shelter too.

Coffee is pretty spiritus and spiritum. Gotta love those enhanced states of consciousness.

  4. Xena says:

I do meditate when I’m trying to recover from an injury, tho. It helps to stay relaxed and positive. I get the impression from some other posts that you know where to look for good techniques. If not, your doc might be able to suggest some.

  5. Roy Kay says:

Just glad that this shows prospects for great improvement. I really hope you can get ALL you old joys back.
