Welcome to the new dive…

Yep, I packed up my shit and moved.  Relocated.  Set up shop somewhere new.  Why, you might ask (or you might not, but I am going to tell you anyway)…

I needed a new start.  There was too much bad blood, bad mojo, bad memories, all around bad shit back at the old joint.  Yeah, it is still there, it’s not going anywhere.  I pondered nuking it, but then decided not to.   But nah, I won’t be there anymore.  For my last several months of blogging there I felt like I was on auto pilot.  Dead but still kicking.  Everything, you see, had some how gone very, very wrong.  Things go bad sometimes, and well, this was one of those times.

Somewhere along the way I forgot why I was blogging and what was really important to me.  Sometimes being a mercenary, well, you forget exactly what you are fighting for and all.  I got to a point where I wasn’t “pro” anything- just mean and cynical and “anti” everything.  Burned out.  Gutted.  Rotting.  I am one of those people who just doesn’t know how to forgive and forget…I’m still not one of those people…but I can attempt to move on in one way or another.

So yep, here we have it, one foot out in front of the other.

And yeah, things will be different this time.  I’ve had more than my fill of various things, enough so much that they make me ill, really.  So sure enough, there will be things I am happy to discuss here in my shiny new arena:  human sexuality, porn, the sex industry, outreach and education, kink, complexity, good days and bad days, disabilities, art, music, movies, sports, gaming, writing, politics, news…and quite possibly, food and cars.  And cats.  There are subjects which I will be a lot more reluctant to delve into…and right now, one of those is feminism.  I am just not in the mood to go there now, and frankly, I am not sure when I will be in the mood to go there again.  Other people can talk about it, the F-Word is not forbidden here, analysis is allowed…but do not expect me to argue from that point of view, on those merits, so on, so forth, for awhile…if ever again.

And while my door is open and I do not generally believe in “safe spaces” , I will say this now:  This place?  It’s for the freaks and the kinksters, the whores and the oddities, the geeks and the marginalized and demonized, the aggressive and mocked and marvelous.  The people whom, if I had the opportunity, I would like to hang out with in real life…and I will not see or tolerate those people being slammed.  If you are going to call anyone around here a sick fuck, a monster, or a sociopath, you better mean it as a compliment or term of endearment.

Catch my mojo?  Excellent.

I’ve had it with the bad, and am ready for some good.  Some safe.  Some…dare I say fun?  Yeah, that too.

And with that…welcome, and the God Emperor of Rome Salutes You!

  1. Awesome new home!!! Congratulations!

  2. Ren says:

It is going to take me forever to get used to word press…

  3. I’ve updated my google reader and our blogroll.

I think AmEx has a special card for God-Emperors. It comes with your own personal staff of minions.

  4. Anji says:

Nice new home you have here. Welcome to WordPress. 🙂

  5. Donna says:

Awesome new site. Looking forward to more of your writing!

  6. Roy Kay says:

Nice to see you moving forward with your life into a place that I hope will prove more joyful.

    >the kinksters

    > the whores

I only ever made a game 2 bits on it, but I’m still proud to have turned pro.

    >and the oddities

Check, Double Check and Redouble Checked.

    >the God Emperor of Rome Salutes You!

Morituri te salutamus! (Well, in the “petit morte” sense anyway.)

  7. Sometimes you just gotta take out the trash and clean out the barn….or, in your case, abandon the barn altogether and build a new and better crib.

I ‘m guessing that I qualify as the freak, the geek, and the marvelous, right??? (Hey, I’m not a whore, but I worship them…does that count?) Heh.

    Updating my linkroll shortly.

Oh…and welcome to WordPress…it kicks ASS.

  8. I reckon I’m more of a wild Celt than a Roman citizen, just a whisker away from stripping naked, painting myself in blue woad and sacking London, but here’s a toast to the God Emperor of Rome anyway!

(I figure you”d make a pretty neat Boudicca as well!)

  9. Hugo says:

Great look to the new site, and thanks for including me in your heads-up. Looking forward to reading!

  10. soulhuntre says:

Congrats on the new digs! I hope it works out as you hope!

  11. rachel cervantes says:

Ah, me, I’m not sure where I fit in the list of those welcome, but I’m going to assume I *am* welcome. Freak, maybe, if freak includes little old ladies who really *don’t* like porn but like even less people who run roughshod over anyone who disagrees. I truly dislike mindless pot-banging and demands for conformity that masquerade under the guise of “feminism.” While I admire the commitment said persons have to their cause, and their zealousness, I abhor the lack of tolerance and “join us or we’ll destroy you” mindset. So, freak will do. Or maybe there is a special category for old anti-porn ladies who are willing to defend the right of those adults who *willingly* choose to partake in said enterprises.

Sometimes I agree with you, sometimes I don’t. You always provoke thought, though, and that has value.

Damn, who got my soapbox out today? Anyway, welcome to WordPress.

  12. Eli says:

    I can’t seem to find a RSS feed for the blog, isn’t there one? -_-;

  13. belledame222 says:

Good stuff. Marie of Romania approves of this message.

  14. Just made my way here and I LOVE what you’ve done with the place, Ren. Sometimes, a fresh start in a new place is really what hits the spot. A whole new “Round 1,” for those of us with a yen for Street Fighter. Anywho, housewarming hugs and if you’re looking for a fellow geek to talk video gaming with, you know where to find me.

*tips my cap to a fresh new beginning*

  15. Ernest Greene says:

Great new space. Glad to be here. Looking forward to new adventures of every sort.

    Thanks for the invite,

  16. Congratulations on your new internet home. It looks nice! Blogger recent locked our blog because of an alleged TOS violation (we have applied for a review), so we might also be moving to WordPress, soon.

  17. Hanna says:

Looking forward to all the good new stuff, without all that nasty feminism getting in the way of the fun.

https://theger.wordpress.com/feed/ is the RSS feed Eli.

You know I won’t be commenting hardly ever, but I’ll be reading. You know how to get in touch with me, but I’ve never really felt like you ever wanted to. And that’s okay.

    • Eli says:

      Cool, thanks Hanna!

    • Ren says:

Hanna- I sort of haven’t wanted to talk to anyone here lately- I do see you on CoH from time to time though. How you liking it?

      • Hanna says:

I’ve been having a blast. The supergroup I ended up joining has been a real treat. Sometimes it can get a little too heteronormative, but I guess that’s not a surprise and would actually be a surprise if they weren’t.

Right now I’m kind of combatting the pressure to be “efficient” and I’m kind of amazed that they’re able to play on the difficulty settings they do. But on the nights and mornings when we get together in teams, it’s just crazy wacky fun.

I spend a lot of time playing alone still. Which is what I need for me. I need to have a calm pace and CoH is able to provide that for me in ways that other games really haven’t been able to. I find it to be really calming. There are still moments where I’m fighting for my life (and dying a lot), but that’s okay too. I get off on the excitement as well. It’s just that the way I have things set up, I can manage the environment so that there’s just enough calm and just enough excitement.

So, it’s been a very positive experience. Especially with the new Issue 16. Making characters is even more fun. Playing in groups is an even smoother process than before.

We’re supposed to get free tailor tokens on Friday morning after maintenance (one for each unlocked costume space), so I’m waiting for those before I go back into my old characters. I’ve already created two new characters since the patch. I’m just really enjoying myself so much.

Thank you again for getting me interested in playing again and for your help in re-activating my account and the free time.

        • Ren says:

As we say in one of the SG’s I am in wrt dying:

“Debt Comes, Debt Goes- a Reputation as a Chicken Lives on Forever”

And some archtypes are far more geared to playing at monty insane difficulty levels than others- brutes, masterminds, scrappers, controllers and tanks are generally going to have an easier go of that than blasters, defenders, corruptors, so on…

I run solo a lot too, it is…oddly calming.

  18. Lisa KS says:

So glad you didn’t decide to permanently decamp from the netz!

I don’t blog anymore, so much. maybe I need to do a similar skin-shedding sort of thing. my big excuse is that I have a toddler now who is often engaged in heavy toddling, so don’t have as much time on my hands as maybe I useta. but I wonder if that’s just an excuse. in any case, love the new pad, man!
